Baking Up Some Delicious Homemade Desserts

Scrumptious Holiday Fudge Desserts You Can Make At Home

There are many essential Christmas treats and the holiday wouldn't be complete without them. Besides Valentine's Day, Christmas is another holiday where people give food as gifts. You can't give your family a better present than a tin of fudge.

Although it's not your dentist's favorite choice in holiday treats, fudge is sweet and delicious. But, it is the Christmas and it only comes once a year. You can undo much of the damage if you brush your teeth afterward. Fudge is simple to produce and it looks delicious. Be sure not to leave it unattended or the ingredients may overcook and ruin your batch of fudge.

A candy thermometer is an absolute necessity when baking up a batch of fudge. Use a candy thermometer o determine the stage of the candy mixture. The ingredients will either be soft, firm, or brittle depending on the temperature. The ideal consistency of fudge is that it will be soft to touch but retain its shape when cut.

When making fudge, experiment with different types. Chocolate is probably the most popular flavor but there are others. Peanut butter fudge is a delicious option as well. It is smooth, creamy, and oh so delicious. Consider the type of fudge flavors that others like so that there is a variety.

The basics of fudge making are the same for most kinds. It's as easy as adding a few more ingredients. You can add chopped nuts for a tasty and nutritious variation on the classic fudge recipe.  Whole or chopped pecans, chopped walnuts, or chopped almonds add a different texture to the fudge.

To make your holiday treats more festive try crushing a candy cane and using it for sprinkles. Adding some Creme de Menthe will increase the minty taste. There are a variety of flavored candy canes available these days. Finish off the fudge pieces with different flavors of candy canes.

If mint isn't your favorite flavor, add some sprinkles or white chocolate treats. White chocolate is made seasonal with snowflakes, stars, and snowmen shapes to celebrate the holidays. You can substitute the white chocolate with regular chocolate shavings. White chocolate can add a unique flavor that your family will enjoy.

Fudge is a wonderful Christmas dessert. It holds up especially nicely in containers lined with wax paper. Almost everyone likes it and those who don't know a child that does. A really great fudge only gives a hint of sweetness so tone down the amount of sugar to less than the recipe calls for. Now go out and create a better day for somebody!
